Ten years ago, the technology became available to sequence people’s entire genome to identify differences in our genetic code. It was discovered that 0.1% of each and everyone of us differs from the next, these differences are called genetic variations  (SNP). These variations have been widely explored in the medical field for personalised medicine and to determine whether an individual is predisposed to disease such as diabetes.

geneOnyx™ saw the potential of the same technology to be used in conjunction with cosmetic skin care and anti-ageing products. But the test had to be fast, lab free, and available in a retail setting.

Two years ago a revolutionary DNA testing kit was developed by DNA electronics which allowed modern day genetics to be brought to the shop floor, for the very first time. geneOnyx has since been granted a worldwide exclusive license for the use of this technology in the cosmetics space.

geneOnyx™ is able to provide detailed analysis of which ingredient and skin care products will be most effective for a specific individual based on the specific genetic variations (SNP) which determine the ingredient’s efficacy.

1 Saliva Collection

Here the saliva is taken and collected in a small tube.

2 Sample Prep Kit

Once the saliva is obtained; it is collected in our sample prep kit which is processed through a series of steps so that the genetic material inside the saliva is extracted for testing.

3 DNA Microchip

At this point the prepared genetic material is inserted into an intelligent cartridge which contains biochemistry and semi-conductor technology that can amplify and detect the personalised genetic variation.

4 CosMos Gateway

The CosMos™ Gateway links the genetic sample via a wireless connection to the online CosMos™ Recommendations Cloud.

5 CosMos Cloud

This is where the detected genetic information is analysed and matched against a large and daily growing library of genetic variations.

6 Results Displayed

geneOnyx™ have developed a web app that will display the product recommendations based on what has been detected by the customer’s DNA. This shortlist provides the customer with greater clarity to choose a preferred product that is best matched to their genetics. Lifestyle factors have also been taken into consideration to further personalise the result based on these considerations.
